In Ancient Egypt the king had absolute power but the ministers who surrounded him did most of the work for him. Ancient Egypt's government was well organized, with lots of departments and officials. They did everything in a strict order and everything was written down. The Ancient Egyptian government was an monarchy because the Pharaoh ruled all. In the monarchy the Pharaoh came first then the Viceroy of Kush, Vizier of upper Egypt, Vizier of lower Egypt(each Vizier had their own set of officials), Viceroy Staff, Treasury, Granaries, Royal works, Army, Priesthood and lastly slaves. Beside the King were the two Viziers that were second most important then the Viceroy of Kush(who governed Nubia) and so on. The Viziers were in charge of all government departments and the justice system. They also collected taxes, supervise irrigation and building projects. Below the Viziers were the army, the priesthood and the 3 most biggest departments, the granaries, Treasury and Royal works. Lastly is Taxes and money. Until the Persian period, Egyptians did not have coins and money. Egyptians paid for everything including their taxes, goods food and etc. They had to give part of what they grew or made and part of their time to the government. Egyptian work tax is called Corvees. Corvees were well organized and were used for many things such as buildings, irrigation, digging and projects. In fact if it wasn't for the corvees the pyramids would never been built.
